Measurement
Money and change
Add small amounts of money, compare prices and work out simple change.
Money is counted just like any other number. $4 and $2 together make $6, exactly the way 4 and 2 make 6.
Worked example
A pencil costs $7. You pay with $10. What change do you get?
Start at 7 and count up towards 10.
Change is the gap between what it cost and what you handed over.
Try it together
Let us buy two things and work out the change.
1.A ball costs $6 and a kite costs $5. What do they cost altogether? Give just the number.
Remember
Adding money is ordinary adding. The only new part is the little sign that sits in front of the number.
Have a go
Have a go: you have $9 and $6. How much altogether? Give just the number.
