Number – number and place value
Zero
Use zero as the number for nothing at all, and add or take away zero.
Zero is the number for nothing at all. An empty box holds zero pencils, and that is a real number just like 3 or 8.
Worked example
What is 6 + 0?
Start with 6 marbles in your hand.
That is what the first number tells you.
Try it together
Let us take everything away.
1.You have 8 marbles and you give away all 8. How many are left?
Remember
Adding zero and taking away zero both leave a number exactly as it was. Taking a number away from itself always lands on zero.
