Parts of a computer
Name the main parts of a computer system, say what each one does, and follow the input-process-output cycle.

Bits and binary numbers
Read a binary number using the place values 1, 2, 4 and 8, and write a small ordinary number in binary.
Before you start
Move along the line and count in ones. Every time you pass 1, 2, 4, 8 or 16 you are passing a place value that binary uses as a column.
Those five landmarks are the only numbers binary needs a single 1 to write: 1, 10, 100, 1000, 10000.

Files and folders
Read a file path, name the folder a file sits in, and use the extension to say what kind of file it is.
Before you start
Each box in this folder tree has a name — find out what each one is called. Notice that the further right a box sits, the deeper inside it is.

What is an algorithm?
Follow an algorithm step by step to find what it produces, and explain why changing the order of the steps changes the answer.
1.An algorithm says: start with 2, then multiply it by 5, then add 1. What number do you end with?
2.Another algorithm says: start with 4, then add 3, then double it. What number do you end with?
3.Some steps just do something. Others ask a question first and go one way or the other. Sort each step.
