Read and use the small words that turn up in almost every sentence.

A few small words turn up again and again. We learn to know them at a glance.

Words to know by sight

I, a, the, my, you, and, is, am, are, in, see, go.

Worked example

Look at this sentence: The cat is in my box.

  1. Four of the six words are sight words.

    The, is, in and my all turn up everywhere.
