Picture graphs

Read a picture graph and answer questions about what it shows.

A picture graph counts with pictures instead of numbers. The longest row is the biggest count, and you can see that without counting at all.

Have a play

This graph shows the fruit a stall sold. Every square is one fruit. Find out which row is which.

Tap any part of the picture.

Worked example

One picture stands for 2 apples. A row has 4 pictures. How many apples is that?

  1. Each picture is worth 2, so count in 2s: 2, 4, 6, 8.

Four pictures means four jumps of 2.

Try it together

Read two rows together.

On this graph one picture stands for 5 pens.

    1.The first row has 3 pictures. What is 5 + 5 + 5?

    Watch out

Always check what one picture stands for. If it stands for 10, a row of 3 pictures is 30, not 3.

    Have a go

Have a go. One picture stands for 2 cakes. How many cakes do 6 pictures show?

Eight questions on what you have just read. Nothing is timed, and you can play as many times as you like.
