8, 9 and 10 times tables
Recall the eight, nine and ten times tables up to 12.
The ten times table is the easiest of all: every digit moves one place up, leaving a zero in the ones. 10 × 7 = 70.
The nine trick
Add the digits of any answer in the nine times table and you reach nine — add again if you need to. 9 × 4 = 36, and 3 + 6 = 9. For 9 × 11 = 99, 9 + 9 = 18, and 1 + 8 = 9.
Worked example
What is 8 × 6?
Eight is double four, and 4 × 6 = 24.
Doubling a fact you already know saves all the counting.
Try it together
Let us work out 9 × 7 together.
Nines are easiest if you go one step too far and then come back.
1.What is 10 × 7?
Have a go
Have a go on your own: 8 × 8 = ?
